Gall wasp Andricus dentimitratus

Description

The gall is caused by Andricus dentimitratus on acorns. Its larva lives inside the gall. More often can be seen on acorns also another, related and similar species - Andricus quercuscalicis. Andricus dentimitratus is more abundant in southern Europe, in the Mediterranean, but also lives in Central Europe. It can damage most acorns in a tree, which can be a problem if the oak seed is expected to be used for natural regeneration in the next forest. The occurrence of this gall does not influence significantly the health status of the tree.
