Archips xylosteana

Brown oak roller Archips xylosteana

Description

Archips xylosteana L. is a tiny brownish yellow moth with about 2-2.5 cm wingspan. Oak leaves rolling is caused by larvae of species. Inside the rolled leaf lives 1.5-2.0 cm long larva. It commonly occurs along with other species such as green oak roller, Tortrix viridana, or the oak roller, Aleimma loeflingiana. Leaf-rollers generally weaken oak tree stands, especially in dry sites and floodplains. Under favourable conditions an outbreak and even defoliation can occur.
