Phytophthora cambivora

Root and crown rot

Description

A soil-borne fungal pathogen, infecting fine or thicker roots of transplants, young plantations and mature trees as well as their trunk bases. The main symptoms of infection are tarry stains, flame-shaped necrotic cambium and degradation of the whole forest stand. They prefer mainly wet (streamside) and gleyed soils. Its population may spread by water runoff or by being carried in mud from the infected forest stands on wheels of forest vehicles, etc.
