Description
Wingspan is 19–26 mm. It can be distinguished by the wing-tip cilia on the forewing which are pure white, as opposed to greyish in case of Yponomeuta padella. Larva is 15–22 mm in length, ground colour is greyish with darker dorsal line. Subdorsal line is formed by a row of black spots, head and prothoracic shield are black, pinnacles are dark grey and conspicuous, setae are medium in length. Gregarious larvae feed on Euonymus spp. in a nest, pupae cocoons are in a group, regularly adjacent to each other. Moths fly from June to October. Bushes, forests and edges of watercourses, abundant. Sometimes causes defoliation during outbreaks.
