The Forest Protection Service (FPS) is a special department of National Forest Centre, focused on forest protection, monitoring of native and invasive pest species and pest control. It was established in 1993 by the Ministry of Agriculture of the SR (MP SR 20 November 1993 under No. 403/93-700). FPS has started its activity from 1. 1. 1994. It ensures the care of forests according to Act NR SR No. 285/1995 Coll. on Plant Care and by the Act of the NR SR no. 471/2001 Coll. FPS has annually processed reports on the status of pests in the country. The FPS also provides control, prognostic and expert duties and services for ministry, forest owners and other public. FPS also can propose the appropriate measurements to improve the state of health in forests and give advices how to control pest and manage disaster situations in the forests.
